OVERVIEW
In 1992, fourteen-year-old American, Sophie Walker receives a scholarship to attend the English boarding school, Dowsford College for high school. It is difficult for her, as Geoff Carmichael and his friends like to torment Sophie for being different. During their final year, Geoff takes a challenge to befriend Sophie. She ends up challenging him to be a better person. A misunderstanding starts a chain of events with lasting consequences when Sophie learns of the bet.

We meet Sophie when she is fourteen and struggling to decide if she should leave the home she shares with her father in the US and accept the scholarship she has been offered to a British boarding school. Sophie decides to accept the scholarship and we follow her through high school, her first love, and many trials and surprises along the way.....
This was one of the best books I have read. You truly become invested in Sophie and want her to succeed. You genuinely feel the same reaction the character does, whenever she is confronted by adversity. As for Geoff you just want to slug him. He has a long way to go in order to get redemption. I can't wait for the next installment of this series....
This is the author's first book and it is well done.The characters are well written, fleshed out and believable. It is very easy to become invested in Sophie, as we have all been "a fish out of water" at some point in our lives. And Geoff is the arrogant bully we have all run into as well....
